About Silton RubberMoulded and extruded rubber component manufacturer in Howrah, Kolkata

Silton Rubber was established in 1981 by Shri Akhil Chandra Jain at Daspara, Howrah. The firm began with jute mill components and general rubber parts, manufactured to order on a small plot of land.

Forty-five years later, the company operates from Liluah with compounding, tooling, moulding, extrusion and testing carried out in-house. The nature of the work is unchanged. A customer presents a component that must seal, absorb or endure a defined condition. Silton determines the appropriate compound and manufactures the part.

Tooling brought in-house

A CNC toolroom was established on site. Moulds and extrusion dies have since been designed and cut in-house, reducing lead time on new dies from weeks to days.

Manufacturing principles

Three things that have not changed

Made to specification

Silton does not hold a catalogue. Components are manufactured to a customer drawing, a physical sample, or a stated requirement. This includes reverse engineering of worn imported parts where the original is no longer available.

An integrated process

Compound mixing, mould making, curing and testing are performed within the same facility. This is not the cheapest arrangement. It is the arrangement that allows a failure to be traced to its cause.

Accuracy on materials

An incorrectly specified elastomer rarely fails on the test bench. It fails in service, some years later, under someone else’s warranty. Silton states the limitations of a compound before a quotation is issued.

Management

Who you will be dealing with

Manufacturing is carried out at 34/1 N. S. Road, Liluah, Howrah, with a commercial office at Alipore, Kolkata. Details of plant and equipment are set out on the process page, and material capability on the materials page.

The deepest capability is in silicone gaskets and silicone extrusion, including soft sections down to 30 Shore A. EPDM moulded gaskets and EPDM extrusions run on a dedicated line of their own, down to 40 Shore A.
